Grand Opening Ceremony for the Erasmus Mundus Master programmes SELECT and THRUST

On Monday the 30th of August the Grand Opening Ceremony for the Erasmus Mundus Master programmes SELECT and THRUST was held at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH. Representatives from EIT, co-operating universities and companies, ambassadors, the president of KTH, and the students enrolled in these programmes and other energy programmes at KTH, were invited to the event. All in all, almost 200 people participated in the ceremony and at the following dinner and mingle at Restaurant Q.

The President of KTH, Peter Gudmundson opened the ceremony with a welcome speech and was followed by Professor Ramin Wyss, EIT, who informed the gathering about the project and talked about visions. Professor Torsten Fransson, KTH, had an interesting speech about the role energy education plays globally and Professor Massimo Santarelli, Politechnico di Torino, addressed the issues with world energy problems that have to be solved.

The first part of the event ended with a prize ceremony. For the first time ever the Department of Energy Technology gave out an Educational Award. The award went to associate professor Hans Jonsson for his (by the students esteemed) accomplishments as a teacher. The prize consisted of a diploma, flowers and SEK 20.000 to be used for seminaries or conferences.

Then a dinner buffet was served at the Restaurant Q. The guests could choose from a variety of dishes such as cold cuts of sage marinated pork tenderloin, couscous salad with thin cut vegetables and tomato sauce, Crayfish Skagen with Västerbotten cheese and dill on crust, Foccacia with tapenade and hummus, chicken tenderloin Gremolata, deep fried Samosas with curry, honey and juniper berry dill-cured salmon with mustard sauce. For dessert the guests were served coffee and home baked cakes such as carrot cake, chocolate cake, sugar cake and Tosca cake with chocolate.
