SELECT Final presentation of Project of the Year (PoY) and Integrated Project of the Year (IPoY) at TU/e

On the 16th and 17th of May 2013, all MSc SELECT students were brought together with academic and administration staff at the MSc SELECT partner universities at TU/e in Eindhoven for two days final presentation of the Project of the Year (for the 1st year students) and Integrated Project of the Year (for the 2nd year students). Besides these presentations there was also time to get to know each other. A sports event, a barbeque and an excursion to the “Strijp S” completed the program for both days.

After a word of welcome by Rick Harwig, Chair of the Strategic Area Energy at Eindhoven University of Technology, and Stefan Smets, Business Creation Officer at KIC InnoEnergy, 6 groups of the first year students were up to present their projects.

The first year students presented their PoY with the following topics:

TU/e group B: CO2-Neutral Wastewater Treatment
TU/e group A: Portable IGFC power plant and clean water provision
KTH group A: Electricity and water supply in developing countries
KTH group B: SynGrAF
UPC group A: The Conception of Educational Facilities for Rural, Developing Areas
UPC group B: Waste Heat Smartly

After all six groups finished their presentation an outdoor sports event was scheduled. However, the typical Dutch weather, lots of rain, caused a last-minute change of program and the sports event was quickly moved to the Indoor Sports Center of the TU/e.

Day two of the meeting was organized around the presentations of the second year students. 4 groups of students presented their projects (EcoVolt, E-boat, Surjoyal and HEC) in the movie theatre of the TU/e. Before all students headed back home to the different SELECT universities, a cultural tour of “Strijp S” was the final part of the program. The students got a tour around the former Philips complex in the heart of Eindhoven and experienced firsthand that this complex has now become one of Eindhoven creative hotspots.
