MSc SELECT Kick-off of the Project of the Year and the Integrated Project, was held at PoliTo, Torino the 27th of September 2012


On the 27th of September 2012, all MSc SELECT students, independent on their locations and cohort, were brought together with academic and administrational staff at the MSc SELECT partner universities at PoliTo in Torino for a one day kick-off of their Project of the Year (for the 1st year students) and their Integrated Project (for the 2nd year students).

Prof. Enrico Macii, Vice Rector for research and technology Transfer, Rector’s Delegate for International affairs introduced the meeting with an overview of the international research and education strategies at PoliTo. The meeting continued by a very nice presentation of the city of Torino and a presentation of I3P, the Innovative Enterprise Incubator of the Politecnico di Torino.

Before lunch, the Programme Director (until September 30, 2012), Assoc. Prof. Viktoria Martin, presented the Project of the Year for the 1st year students. There were four different projects for the students to choose between, which considered Clean water and Electricity in developing regions, Renewables in Europe by 2050, CO2 free aviation and Utilization of Industrial Surplus Energy in integrated communities.
 

After lunch, Prof. Marco Masoero, head of the Department of Energy at PoliTo, presented the organization and the activities going on at this Department. Thereafter, Prof. Guido Saracco continued with having a speech on “Progress through basic science”.

The last item of the agenda for this day was the presentation of the proposals of Integrated Projects by the 2nd year students. Four different projects were presented:

  • Microbial fuel cell power source
  • Solar-Powered Water and Electricity Generation
  • Sustainable Energy Solutions for Boats
  • Holistic Energy Concepts for Eco-Communities

After their presentations, the students got valuable feed-back directly from the senior staff auditors.
The whole day was finalized with a Happy hour for the students and senior staff together, followed by a dinner.
