Mines Nantes Field of Specialization

Mines Nantes, part of the National Institute Mines-Telecom, is a multi-field school of engineers with 5 departments related with industrial sciences. EMN is under the authority on French Ministry of industry, what provides an industrial network and "culture" to the SELECT+ program. Teaching in EMN covers classical engineering fields as well as social sciences and project management. Originality in terms of teaching (in relation with the SELECT+ program) can be identified in different lectures on multiscale analysis of energy issue and transverse (energy/environment) research methods, for examples. Industrial oriented research together with innovative teaching topics ensure a complementary approach that industrial energy issues deal with in the SELECT+ project. Mines Nantes is also involved in the KIC InnoEnergy.

EMN has achieved internationally recognized expertise in a wide range of sciences and technologies connected with energy and environment issues, especially for the Department Energy Systems and Environment. This Department is regularly associated partner or coordinator of International, European and National research projects (e.g. EMEEES, ESAM, REMOVALS).

Research activities are going from the quality improvement of energy systems, alternative fuels, treatment/purification processes applied to energy system, to the energy demand modelling, evaluation of energy efficiency actions, implementation of systems for efficient mix energy solution. Priority is given to a transverse approach from local to global scale coupling energy, environment, economy, social issues.

The Department Energy Systems and Environment, is in charge of the Erasmus Mundus Master Course ME3 (Management and Engineering of Environment and Energy) coordination and of the MSc PM3E (Project Management for Environmental and Energy Engineering). That ensures an efficient welcome of the SELECT+ students as well as the relevance of the courses proposed for a strong link with industrial research objectives.

Department Energy Systems and Environment is also member of research units of the French Council for Research CNRS (UMR-GEPEA and FR-IRSTV).
