Project Light of Hope has secured the position in the final of Dell Education Challenge 2013.

The project has been selected as one of the top 3 teams for finals among 50 semifinalists. Total participants were 815 from 50+ countries around the world. The final will be held on 9-13 December 2013 in Austin, Texas, USA.

Two SELECTERs (Md. Nasimul Islam Maruf and Md. Asaduzzaman Shoeb) are actively involved with this project. Light of Hope will operate informal community schools in remote areas of Bangladesh equipped with solar PV system for e-education and income generation from its mobile charging station to cover the operation cost.

Turning the limitation into an advantage: Bring ‘Light of Technology’ to schools

The project aims to build community-based schools (BRAC model) equipped with a laptop, LED bulbs, printer and mobile charging stations - all powered by solar PV system. The students will have access to advanced and children-friendly e-study materials improving their education quality. The local potential female teachers and system operator will be trained. The monthly income from charging station and printing service will be used to cover the operation cost and teacher's salary. The project’s diverse outcome stretches from convenient service of charging and printing, savings of daily working hours, increased household income to considerable reduction of CO2 emission.
